Daniel Waved 1
Yesterday Daniel was sitting in the high chair in the kitchen while I stood on the other side. Lorna stepped into the other room, and I looked at Daniel from across the room and waved, saying “Hi Daniel”. He raised his arm and it looked like he waved back, but I thought he was just stretching.
“You should see what Daniel just did…”, I called out to Lorna. “It was a fluke, but it looked like he waved at me.”
I left the room for a minute, and he did the same thing with our friend Karen.
Twice.
“I don’t think that was a fluke…”, Lorna called out to me. “He did it again.”
I came back in the room and he answered my wave a second time, waving back. By now Lorna, Kim, Karen, and I were all in the room waving at him – he decided he was tired of that game and started wiggling his feet.
The kids have been doing a lot of imitating – facial features, noises, and so on – but this was the first inkling of imitating communication. It seemed like a milestone moment.
Awww! :)
